The Athens bourse spent most of Wednesday in the red, with a mix of stocks responding to the rise in oil rates after the aggravating situation in the Middle East. However, a late surge in line with the rebound in most European markets gave blue chips like Titan Cement, Coca-Cola HBC and OTE the chance to lead a price rebound and take the benchmark back above 2,500 points, even if most stocks remained in negative territory.
The Euronext Athens (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,506.79 points, adding 0.24% to Tuesday’s 2,500.79 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.29% to end at 6,382.94 points, though mid-caps contracted 0.73%.
The banks index also improved 0.29%, with Bank of Cyprus rising 1.90%, National climbing 0.98%, Optima securing 0.68% and Piraeus growing 0.38%, while CrediaBank lost 3.03%. Titan jumped 5.91%, CCHBC augmented 2.09% and OTE collected 1.64%, just as Aktor dropped 4.61%.
In total, 41 stocks obtained gains, 67 showed losses and 15 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to €282.2 million, down from Tuesday’s €372.3 million.
