The property owner told the spaza shop manager to close down after learning what had happened.
Six children aged between six and 15 were rushed to three Cape Town hospitals after allegedly collapsing, vomiting excessively and struggling to breathe after drinking a two-litre cooldrink bought from a spaza shop in Ottery.
Four of the children, including the six-year-old, are the children of Sakeena Adam and her husband, while the other two are friends of the family.
Adam said she and her husband sent the children to the nearby shop on Saturday evening to buy two bottles of cooldrink before supper.
The children returned with a Coke for the adults and a separate flavoured cooldrink for themselves.
