A 79-year-old woman in Stavroupoli, a suburb of Thessaloniki, has reported losing gold coins and jewelry in a scam carried out by people posing as employees of Greece’s electricity distribution operator.
According to the complaint, the suspects convinced the woman to leave a plastic bag containing valuables outside her home.
They allegedly stole 23 British gold sovereigns, two gold watches, rings and other jewelry before fleeing.
The incident was reported on Saturday. The Pavlos Melas police department, which investigates serious crime in the western Thessaloniki area, is conducting the investigation.
