A woman in northern Greece has lost €200,000 euros, gold coins and jewellery to fraudsters posing as investment advisers, police said Wednesday.

A police statement said one suspect has been identified and charged in connection with the scam in August 2025, which targeted a 61-year-old woman in the northern town of Serres.

Police said an associate of the suspect phoned the victim pretending to be an assistant of her accountant’s and suggested that she should get in touch with the suspect to make investments. The victim fell for the ruse and handed over the cash, as well as 12 British gold sovereigns and an unspecified quantity of jewellery, police said.

Detectives are trying to identify the suspect’s associate, and are investigating whether she was involved in other similar cases.
