Microsoft and Mistral AI are doubling down on European AI infrastructure, a collaboration that started with a multi-year partnership in early 2024 and has since evolved into something more interesting: a relationship where Mistral is simultaneously a Microsoft partner and an increasingly independent infrastructure player building its own sovereign computing capacity across the continent.
The infrastructure buildout
Mistral has been on a spending spree. The company raised $830 million in debt financing to construct a major data center in Bruyères-le-Châtel, near Paris. That facility will house 13,800 Nvidia GB300 GPUs and is expected to go live in Q2 2026.
The Paris data center is part of a broader ambition to reach 200 MW of total capacity across Europe by the end of 2027.
Then there’s Sweden. Mistral announced a €1.2 billion (roughly $1.4 billion) investment for AI data centers in partnership with EcoDataCenter back in February 2026.
