Microsoft has agreed to bankroll a large slice of Mistral AI’s European build-out, extending a partnership that already binds the Paris lab to the American giant’s cloud.
The two companies announced the expanded agreement on Tuesday, describing it as a multibillion-dollar commitment to compute infrastructure across the continent.
What is clearer is the shape of it: Microsoft will fund Mistral’s growing base of GPUs in Europe while stopping short of taking a new equity stake, a distinction that matters given the EU’s earlier antitrust scrutiny of the relationship.
Under the terms set out in the companies’ joint announcement, Mistral will add thousands of NVIDIA’s latest Vera Rubin chips to its European capacity.
Azure customers, in turn, gain access to Mistral’s French data centres, while its Medium 3.5 and OCR 4 models land inside Microsoft Foundry and Copilot Studio.
