The alliance strengthens Mistral’s position as the leading European AI vendor, while extending Microsoft’s presence in Europe.

The expansion of a partnership between Microsoft and French AI startup Mistral AI is beneficial to both vendors, as it provides Mistral with the sales reach it needs to expand its products and gives Microsoft the ability to continue expanding into Europe. It also provides enterprises operating in Europe with more options for models and cloud platforms.
The vendors revealed on July 21 that they plan to expand AI infrastructure in Europe. Microsoft will use Mistral’s European data centers, which are powered by Nvidia Rubin GPUs, to boost its capacity for AI development. Meanwhile, Mistral’s Medium 3.4 and OCR 4 are now available in Microsoft Foundry. Mistral Medium 3.4 is available in Microsoft Copilot Studio, enabling enterprises to build and run AI across diverse operating environments, whether on the cloud or locally.
Microsoft said the partnership will extend its sovereign cloud approach by combining Mistral’s models with Microsoft’s security, compliance and cloud-to-edge platform.
