It is all clear for the Tshwane City to press ahead with the disciplinary action against five of its senior officials implicated in the multi-million-rand Rooiwal wastewater treatment tender scandal involving controversial businessman Edwin Sodi's companies, following victory in the Labour Court.
The court dismissed with costs an application by the officials – Stevens Notoane, Thembeka Mphefu, Frans Manganye, Justice Sekokotla, and Dumisani Gubuza – to have disciplinary proceedings against them halted, arguing they were treated unfairly.
ActionSA welcomed the court ruling, describing it as a victory for the city, its residents and its Mayor, Dr Nasiphi Moya, who had launched “an all-out assault against rot and malfeasance” since coming into office.
“The awarding of the Rooiwal tender, under a DA-led administration, not only set back the efforts to resolve the Hammanskraal water crisis by years, but also contributed to the deaths of 47 people following a cholera outbreak in 2023. This court victory is a step towards ensuring justice for those who tragically lost their lives, as well as their families,” ActionSA said in a statement after the judgment delivered on July 10.
