Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has been urged to balance political appointments to reflect the two major religions in the state.
The Concerned Northern Christian Women Forum made the call in Minna when they pointed out that the Muslim-Muslim governorship ticket of the governor and his running mate, Yakubu Garba, on the same-faith ticket in Niger State is akin to discarding the feelings of the adherents of other faiths.
Thus, the chairperson of the forum, Mrs Grace Zegi, appealed to the governor to give thoughtful consideration in his cabinet appointments, stressing that as one who is seen to be a lover of both faiths, he will do well to balance things in Niger State.
While Zegi noted that although the country’s constitution does not prohibit a one-faith arrangement, she maintained that political leadership should demonstrate sensitivity to the state’s religious diversity and realise that all citizens are one and no decision should undermine other religions.
