The progressive front has chosen Gela as the starting point to measure the distance between what Sicily asks for and what the Schifani government has failed to offer. The city has thus become the place where parties and movements try to mend, starting from ideas on how to govern, a field that has too often spoken with dissonant voices in Sicily and Italy. The listening tour, inaugurated under a heat that seems to anticipate the fiery climate of the electoral campaign to govern Sicily, has immediately laid bare the structural fragilities of the island: waste managed with logics that ignore proximity, a healthcare system bent to power balances and unable to guarantee dignity to doctors and patients, infrastructures in the south that remain unfulfilled promises. The secretaries of parties and movements of the Sicilian progressives listened to the various interventions. None of them spoke. But the assessment of the first "work in progress" is positive for everyone. It is for the secretary of the Pd, the largest party in the coalition.
"From Gela, an excellent starting point. A coalition is built starting from ideas - emphasizes Barbagallo returning from Gela - the insights that emerged were interesting. On waste and healthcare, it is urgent to change pace. If we go to government, the healthcare managers and others will be recruited only through public selections. It cannot be that here in Sicily these appointments are the waiting room for retirement for individuals whose placement is unknown. And then there are the Municipalities that manage critical situations and essential services. The tips and small handouts that have been distributed have created inequalities and left the municipalities in a bind. On these aspects, on policies for legality and for youth, on a greener Sicily, we who want to create a coalition must be able to propose a valid alternative to the Sicilians".
