Residents of Thirumagal Nagar in Nathipalayam panchayat in Gobichettipalayam taluk have submitted a petition to the district administration seeking drinking water supply and street lights in their locality. The petition, submitted during the grievance redress day meeting on Monday (July 20), said over 50 families, including over 30 school-going children, have been residing in the locality since 2016. However, the panchayat was yet to provide basic amenities such as drinking water supply and street lights. Without streetlights, the residents, including children, faced difficulties commuting after dark, particularly owing to the presence of venomous snakes in the area. The residents said they paid property tax and other local taxes regularly and without arrears. The petition further stated that households were forced to make their own arrangements for drinking water. During summer, when local water sources dry up, residents have to travel outside the village to fetch drinking water. The prevailing water scarcity has further aggravated the situation, it added. The residents urged the district administration to direct the authorities concerned to provide a regular drinking water supply and install adequate street lights in their area at the earliest.
