Residents of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board’s (TNUHDB) tenements submitted a petition at the weekly grievance redress meeting held at Tirunelveli Corporation Office, demanding drinking water connections from the Corporation.According to the petition, through TNUHDB 320 houses have been allocated in Jeba Garden project. Several people residing in the tenement have paid the deposit amount of ₹9,830 to the Corporation for drinking water connection. The petitioners noted that even after two years, the Corporation has not provided connections to the residents.Speaking to The Hindu, A.Thukkamuthu, secretary of Residents’ Welfare Association of Jeba Garden project said, “The Corporation has received the deposit amount for individual water connections for the houses. However, no actions were taken so far. Instead, water is being supplied through the underground sump at the tenement site, and even that is not being done regularly.”The petitioners urged Corporation to take immediate steps to provide drinking water connection to the residents who have paid deposit amount for connections at TNUHDB tenement in Jeba Garden.A petition submitted by Manithaneya Makkal Katchi sought for the repair of roads on a war footing. The petition stated that in ward 6, including Anna Street, Shanthi Nagar main road, Kamarajar Nagar Ist main road, 60-feet road in Rahmath Nagar of ward 5, and several roads in the city which were dug for Underground Drainage System (UGDS) has not been restored, posing difficulties for motorists and residents.The petition has urged the Corporation authorities to restore the damaged roads in the city for the convenience of the public.The petitions were received by Deputy Mayor K.R. Raju at the meeting. He has directed the authorities to look into the issues and address the grievances of the residents. Published - June 30, 2026 07:48 pm IST
