Koeberg Nuclear Power Station’s Unit 2 has been on a scheduled outage since April 2026.

Officials have assured there is no need to panic over the four radiation contamination events at the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station.

Koeberg Nuclear Power Station’s Unit 2 has been on a scheduled outage since April 2026.

On Sunday, senior energy officials representing Eskom, the National Nuclear Regulator (NRR), the Department of Electricity and Energy, and the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation briefed the media on recent incidents reported at the power plant.

The briefing was held after the NRR revealed this week that it was reviewing radioactive contamination events at Koeberg’s Unit 2 reactor, which arose during scheduled steam generator Eddy Current Testing (ECT) inspections.
