Speaking at the campaign launch of presidential hopeful Sandile Zungu, pictured, Riet claimed independent regions are facing mounting administrative pressure.
Safa national executive committee (NEC) member and Save Our SAFA (SOS) national convenor Lebogang Riet has alleged that some regions are being victimised for supporting calls for change ahead of the association’s elective congress.
Riet, who is part of the lobby group backing presidential candidate Sandile Zungu, made the claims during Zungu’s campaign launch at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg on Saturday. The football administrator said the issue ahead of the elections was not necessarily corruption, but rather alleged victimisation of regions that have opposed the current leadership.
“It’s not necessarily an element of corruption but an element of victimisation, our regions are now victimised because they voted against changes (in the past),” Riet said.
He claimed that some regions were facing pressure because of their perceived alignment, while those attempting to remain independent were also vulnerable.
