Primetime action hero Ruru Madrid is starring in his first ever Cinemalaya film, 'Hand of God.'

The movie tells the story of a young soldier who introduces the game of football to the children of a remote, warn-torn village.

It is one of the nine full-length entries for this year's edition of the prestigious Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.

According to the actor, he personally received a call from Ranvel Rufino, one of the movie's producers, about the project. He also got the opportunity to speak with the film's writer and director Mark Duane Angos.

"Nung una akong tawagan ni Boss (Ranvel Rufino) tungkol sa project na ito, I knew it was something special. Then I got the chance to talk to Direk (Mark Angos) who is the writer and director of this film, tungkol sa kwento, sa vision nya, at kung bakit nila ako naisip para maging lead sa pelikula na ito," he recalled in an Instagam post.
