A 15-year-old girl riding pillion on a motorcycle was killed after a government bus hit the two-wheeler at Panangulam in Keeramangalam police station limits in the district on Saturday. The police gave the name of the victim as R. Thanuskadevi of Panangulam east village. Her father Ravi and her 17-year-old sister Tharanikadevi were injured in the accident.The police said Mr. Ravi was riding the motorcycle with his daughters Thanuskadevi and Tharanikadevi on the pillion on the Pattukottai-Aranthangi road when the bus bound for Paramakudi from Pattukottai knocked down the two-wheeler.Thanuskadevi was killed on the spot while the injured Mr. Ravi and Tharanikadevi were taken to the Aranthangi Government Hospital. The bus driver and the conductor fled the spot. A section of people staged a protest demanding the arrest of the driver leading to tense moments. The protesters dispersed after police and revenue officials held talks with them. The bus driver and conductor were rounded up. The Keeramangalam police have registered a case.
