A firefighter, a former local community president and his brother were arrested on Saturday in connection with a spate of arsons in Messinia, southern Greece.

The arrested came after a two-year investigation into multiple fires, which presented common characteristics in the mode of action, frequency of occurrence, spatial concentration and method of initiation.

According to information from the ongoing investigation, evidence indicates that the three suspects carried out seven arson attacks between 2024 and 2025, near the settlement of Metamorfosi, Messinia. The suspects, aged between 45 and 65, are believed to have acted together

The three men, are also accused of other offences, including extortion, aggravated criminal damage and theft, allegedly committed over a period of around a decade.
