Two men were arrested Tuesday in the Peloponnese and southeast of Athens for allegedly starting wildfires through negligence, the Fire Service said.

A 37-year-old was arrested near the town of Nafplio in the Argolid over a fire that destroyed about 100 square meters of scrub before being extinguished. The fire service said the suspect had been carrying out work in the area. He will have to pay a €1.400 fine.

The second arrest was near Keratea, southeast of Athens, where a 78-year-old man allegedly dropped a cigarette that set fire to rubbish and destroyed about 1,000 square meters of scrub.
