Thailand's largest petrochemical producer PTT Global Chemical Plc (GC) has unveiled an ambitious initiative called the Holistic Optimisation project, which harnesses artificial intelligence (AI) to cut costs and redesign plastic production for greater recyclability. The programme aims to strengthen GC's position in the global petrochemical market by streamlining operations, enhancing sustainability and producing more eco-friendly plastics.
Pornsak Mongkoltrirat, chief operations officer for GC's Center of Excellence, said the project focuses on flexible management of raw materials, production processes and marketing strategies.
Digital transformation lies at the heart of the project. GC is deploying AI, robotics, cloud computing and the Internet of Things to improve performance and reduce costs.
According to Mr Pornsak, maintenance expenses for machinery and equipment could be cut by more than 10% through the use of AI-powered robots that detect potential faults before they escalate into costly breakdowns.
