The State has contacted the Registrar of the Privy Council seeking an urgent and expedited hearing in the matter involving businessman Dominic Hadeed and his wife, Genevieve Hadeed.
The Express learnt that contact was made with the Privy Council at around 4 a.m. on Friday in an effort to secure a hearing as early as next week.Hadeed and his wife remain imprisoned after the State successfully challenged their release from detention late on Thursday night.The Hadeeds were arrested on June 24, while Genevieve Hadeed's maternal aunt, 69-year-old Star Sabga, was detained on June 25 in relation to an alleged plot to murder Government officials, including Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, based on intelligence from an unidentified national security organisation.Since then, they have challenged their detention and, on Thursday, July 16, the couple were granted interim relief by the Court of Appeal while their legal challenge to their Preventive Detention Orders (PDOs) is being determined. They had been expected to be released from detention and placed under house arrest subject to strict conditions.However, the State opposed their release and sought an emergency hearing late on Thursday night, with the Court of Appeal subsequently staying its decision to release them.A full hearing has been scheduled for today, July 17, 2026, at 3 p.m. to determine whether the stay should remain in effect pending the proposed Privy Council proceedings.
