Sivaganga MP Karti Chidambaram on Friday advised the officials to ensure the schemes of the Centre and the State government reach the general public. The officials should work keeping in mind the welfare of the people, he said.He was chairing the District Development, Coordination and Monitoring (DISHA) Committee meeting held in Pudukottai at the District Collectorate. Along with Mr. Karti Chidambaram, Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko and Ramanathapuram MP Navas Kani participated in the meeting, which was attended by Pudukottai Collector M. Aruna. Mr. Karti Chidambaram reviewed in detail a host of schemes of the Union government being executed in coordination with the State government in Pudukottai district; the target set for each one of them, action taken and the progress made in the execution of the schemes.He advised the officials to expedite works taken up under the schemes and bring them to public use at the earliest. Representatives of local bodies conveyed to Mr. Karti Chidambaram the requirements of their respective areas on the occasion. The MP advised the officials of the government department concerned to examine the demands of the local body representatives and take action on them, an official release said. Mr. Durai Vaiko, Co-Chairperson of the DISHA Committee, who raised a host of issues, urged the authorities concerned to ensure quality in the permanent construction of RO drinking water purification plants being established under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme funds and adhere to the government guidelines. He reviewed the progress of the land acquisition for the construction of an overbridge at Thiruvappur railway gate in Pudukottai and urged the district administration, railways, State highways and revenue departments to hold a joint meeting to plan the next course of action.
