Proteas Women’s captain Laura Wolvaardt may have swept the board at the CSA Awards evening, but her motivation stems from leading a group of young players starting to make their mark on the international stage.
Wolvaardt won every prize she was eligible for: SA Women’s Player of the Year, ODI Player of the Year, T20 Player of the Year, and Players’ Player of the Year.
This was due to Wolvaardt’s excellent performances over the eligibility period, when she finished as the overall leading run-scorer at the ODI World Cup with 571 runs at an average of 71.37, including centuries in the semi-final and final.
She was also the Proteas’ leading run-scorer in the ODI series in New Zealand before dominating the home T20I series against India, where she scored 330 runs in five matches and was named Player of the Series.
