Proteas Women's captain Laura Wolvaardt has been putting in the hours behind the scenes to return to form in Thursday's ICC T20 World Cup semi-final against hosts England at The Oval.
Unlike Bafana Bafana, whose hearts were broken in stoppage time in Los Angeles, the Proteas Women’s cricket team will live to fight another day.
Laura Wolvaardt’s side progressed to their fifth consecutive major ICC tournament semi-final on Sunday — albeit courtesy of a nervy victory over Bangladesh and Australia’s knockout of arch-rivals India at Lord’s.
All that has gone before is now forgotten. This is knockout cricket, which the Proteas have become well-versed in, especially semi-finals. That holds even more gravitas when the opposition is England, whom they face at The Oval on Thursday (7:30 pm SA time).
The Proteas have eliminated the hosts in their last two semi-final encounters, which includes the 2023 T20 World Cup epic at Newlands and last year’s World Cup 125-run demolition in Guwahati.
