The Windows updates from the July Patchday as well as the update previews from the end of June have had unwanted side effects on some Dell computers. Microsoft is therefore not distributing the security patches in July to affected systems.
Microsoft explains this in the Windows Release Health notes. According to the notes, after installing the update preview from June of this year on a limited number of Dell computers, yellow exclamation marks appeared in the Device Manager for the “Intel Innovation Platform Framework Processor Participant” driver. In some cases, this leads to performance degradation, increased power consumption, or changes in system behavior on affected systems, Microsoft explains.
The problem is due to an incompatibility between the Intel driver and the new Windows USB-C Connection Manager interface introduced with the June update preview, the developers have found. They are working with Dell on a solution to prevent the issue from occurring on the devices, the Redmond-based company assures. Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 are impacted. Microsoft plans to correct this in the coming days.
Corrected problems
However, there are not only new issues; the July security update also addresses old bugs. For example, on virtually all supported Windows versions, after installing the June security updates, files deleted from the Recycle Bin displayed an internal file name instead of the original full file name. In the Windows Release Health notes, the manufacturer writes that the issue is resolved with the July updates. This also applies to Windows 10 22H2 – Microsoft extended the Extended Security Updates (ESU) again at the end of June without much fanfare. Private users in the EEA will now benefit from the ESU free of charge until October 2027.
