Despite the energy shock, Moody’s Analytics still expects record tourist arrivals in Greece and Europe in general this summer.
However, the firm speaks of a “new face” of tourism, as the profile of travel has changed and this will strongly affect revenues in economies that depend heavily on it, such as Greece.
Catalysts of this change are heat waves and geopolitical tension.
Trips will be shorter and closer to home, turning to destinations that are considered safe, economical, less crowded and not faced with heat waves, with demand spreading in September-October instead of concentrating in the July-August period.
