In Part I of our New York Jets fan survey, we covered how more than 2,600 Jets fans felt about head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey coming off their first season in New York. For Part II, we’re gauging how the fans feel about owner Woody Johnson and the state of the roster — particularly the quarterback room — and looking ahead to this season to figure out who fans think will break out and what this team’s record will be.One question drew the most pessimistic responses out of any we asked in this survey: When will the Jets actually snap their 15-year playoff drought? (Spoiler: Very few think that will happen in 2026.)How confident any Jets fan is about the 2026 season is primarily dependent on two factors. The first is Glenn, who we already covered in Part I. The other: quarterback Geno Smith.Fans, per the survey, lean neutral-to-negative on Smith, which is in line with the general reaction since he came back to the Jets in March. Only 2.5 percent of those who responded feel “very confident" in him.(Which had me thinking: What recent Jets quarterbacks would fans have been "very confident" in? Some possibilities: Aaron Rodgers in 2023, Ryan Fitzpatrick heading into 2016, Mark Sanchez before 2011, Brett Favre in 2008 and Chad Pennington in 2003.)Analyzing 3 standout performers from the Jets' offseason programZack RosenblattSmith was the best of some mostly unappealing options this offseason. Yet, he’s not far removed from an extremely productive tenure as the Seahawks' starting quarterback from 2022-24. If Smith can play closer to his Seattle form than the one he showed in Las Vegas, the Jets have a chance to have a legitimately fun, explosive offense. Smith showed some flashes during the spring but the real tests won’t come until the games start. From the Jets' perspective, at least they’re not tied to Smith beyond this year. If he’s bad, they can move on and draft someone in 2027. If he’s good, they can explore bringing him back — and it would be a great story. It is fair to wonder just how bad Glenn can afford his quarterback to be since there currently aren't any other great alternatives in the building. The Jets dabbled with the likes of Russell Wilson, Carson Wentz and others, but never actually pulled the trigger on any of them (and talk of them reportedly offering Wilson a contract was overblown, by the way). Instead, they signed Bailey Zappe in January and drafted Cade Klubnik in April and are letting the two of them (along with Brady Cook) duke it out for the backup job.As such, it should come as no surprise that fans are largely unconfident (or very unconfident) in the current state of the room, and that they believe the No. 2 quarterback behind Smith should be someone not currently on the roster. If that does happen, it feels more likely to be during or after training camp, unless Cooper Rush or Josh Dobbs really tickles their fancy.Quarterback was the overwhelming winner for the most concerning position group — at 64.9 percent of the vote, it was the third-largest majority among the survey's 25 questions. That is likely a combination of a lack of confidence in Smith at this stage of his career and concern about the backup quarterbacks. Inside linebacker came in second place, though that’s more due to depth concerns behind Demario Davis and Jamien Sherwood, who should be fine as the starters. Cornerback checked in at third place — a reason for that likely being that Brandon Stephens will be the No. 1 cornerback even though fans aren’t especially fond of him.
