Units of the Deep Strike forces of Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces, together with members of the Resistance Movement, carried out an operation overnight on July 14 targeting the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in temporarily occupied Sevastopol.
The Command of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the operation on Facebook, as cited by Ukrinform.
According to preliminary information, the attack damaged the turbine hall and cooling system of one of the Siemens SGT5-2000E turbines. If the pumping equipment was damaged, repairs could take two to five months.
The Balaklava TPP is a key element of Crimea’s energy infrastructure. Together with the Tavriiska TPP in Simferopol, it supplies about 90% of Crimea’s electricity consumption. The two facilities form the backbone of the peninsula’s own power generation capacity.
Temporarily occupied Crimea serves as a military and logistics hub for the Russian military.
