Two members of an expert team constituted by the Kerala government to study the removal of the excavation debris piled up in front of the Kalladi tunnel site in Wayanad district visited the debris-slip site on Wednesday.The team comprised Santhosh G. Thampi, Professor, National Institute of Technology-Calicut, and K. Sreelash, scientist at the National Centre for Earth Science Studies, Thiruvananthapuram. They inspected the site of the debris slip, the construction area of the tunnel road, and the place where the excavated soil has been dumped. Mr. Thampi later told the media that they were also planning to check the aerial view of the site. The conditions appeared conducive to removing the debris as there was no rain in the past few days. The committee would examine the site in detail and submit a report to the government in a week, he added.The expert team also held talks with officials in the departments of Public Works and Geology, Konkan Railway Corporation, and Dilip Buildcon Ltd., the construction company engaged in the tunnel road work. They inspected the area where the company had dumped the soil and debris from the construction site. The team checked the parts of metal recovered from the Meenakshi river after the debris slip on July 7. They also examined the vehicles and concrete parts that were found in the river. K.
