The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its latest wave of airstrikes targeting Islamic Republic military positions in southern Iran concluded after approximately seven hours.
In an official statement, CENTCOM noted that the operation continued until around 5:30 AM on Wednesday, Iran time, striking dozens of military targets near the Strait of Hormuz and along Iran’s southern coastline.
U.S. fighter jets, drones, and naval vessels used precision-guided munitions to target a series of missile and drone sites, coastal defence systems, and naval capabilities belonging to the Islamic Republic. CENTCOM stated that the objective of the strikes was to degrade the regime’s capacity to threaten maritime shipping and conduct military operations in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
At the time of publication, Islamic Republic officials had not released details regarding the extent of the damage or potential casualties from the bombardment.
The U.S. military campaign against the Islamic Republic’s military infrastructure began early on July 12 following escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had previously attacked commercial vessels, declared the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and threatened to block all maritime transit through the waterway.
