United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces launched a second wave of airstrikes on Wednesday night, hitting approximately 90 Islamic Republic military targets across southern Iran.
According to a CENTCOM statement, the targeted sites included:
Air defense systems, Coastal surveillance and monitoring equipment, Missile and drone storage and maintenance facilities, Naval capabilities and assets, Military logistical infrastructure along Iran’s coastline
In a post on the social media platform X, which included video footage of the operations, CENTCOM stated that the objective of the mission was to “further degrade Iran’s capability to attack commercial vessels and civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz.”
CENTCOM noted that this latest operation followed Tuesday night’s opening wave of strikes, which targeted roughly 80 military objectives, including more than 60 IRGC fast-attack craft. The United States previously declared that the initial bombardments were a direct response to attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and what Washington characterized as “the Islamic Republic’s violation of the ceasefire.”
