Wales' veteran prop Nicky Smith says his side must start fast and embrace the challenge of facing the Springboks' formidable pack as they look to end their tour on a high at Kings Park on Saturday.
Veteran loose-head prop Nicky Smith has challenged Wales to take the fight to the Springboks in Saturday's Nations Championship clash at Kings Park, insisting they cannot afford to repeat the timid display that cost them against Argentina.
Wales arrived in Durban determined to finish their tour on a high following a bruising defeat to Los Pumas, with Smith admitting the squad's biggest frustration was their failure to truly impose themselves on the contest.
"I think what was most disappointing was we didn't feel like we threw a punch," Smith said on Tuesday. "We reacted after half-time and wrestled a bit of momentum back, but by then it was probably too late. Against a side like South Africa, we've got to start fast."
The experienced front-rower knows few challenges in world rugby compare to the brutal physical examination posed by the Springboks' celebrated "Bomb Squad" and starting front row.
