Bainskloof Pass reopened to traffic on Friday, July 10, after emergency repairs following flood damage. Motorists are advised to allow for additional travel time as traffic accommodation measures remain in place.

The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure has reopened Bainskloof Pass to traffic after emergency repairs, following significant flood damage that forced the route to close earlier this year.

Bainskloof Pass is a key route connecting Wellington with Ceres and the Witzenberg region, serving residents, businesses and tourists travelling through the Cape Winelands.

The department announced that the MR201, which includes the Bainskloof Pass section, reopened on Friday, July 10, under traffic accommodation after repair work reached a stage where the road could safely be used again.

According to the Department of Infrastructure, the Transport Infrastructure Branch and its partners worked to repair the flood damage, allowing the pass to be partially reopened while work continues.
