Ingrid Altman painted Harry Potter on this old painting.

An extraordinary alliance of discarded thrift-shop paintings, local creative talent, and seven shelter dogs is set to descend on Cape Town this July, transforming forgotten canvases into lifelines for vulnerable animals.

The annual RePAWposed TEARS Art Exhibition and Auction returns to the Noordhoek Art Point Gallery from 25 to 31 July 2026, breathing new life into unloved art. The heartwarming initiative challenges local artists and imaginative members of the public to select a thrifted painting from the shelves of TEARS charity shops and transform it into a completely new, one-of-a-kind masterpiece. This year, organisers hope to surpass previous records by raising over R60,000 to fund the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming work of the TEARS animal welfare charity.

Adding an unforgettable chapter to the 2026 exhibition is seven very special guest artists who have traded their kennels for canvases. Rescue dogs Patra, Bullet, Demi, and Evalyn, alongside playful puppies Lady Freckleton, Lady Wigglebutt, and Bear, took part in a unique studio session under the guidance of gallery owner and artist Aimee Kruger. With their paws gently dipped in paint, the canine creators wandered across canvases to produce striking, colourful abstract compositions that reflect their vibrant, resilient spirits.
