SYRIZA’s leadership is undergoing a shake-up as longtime officials who opposed the party’s decision not to run against Alexis Tsipras are stepping aside, with party control passing to Rena Dourou, Nikos Pappas and Pavlos Polakis.
Deputy secretary Anastasia Sapouna and five other political secretariat members resigned, condemning what they called disrespect toward the party’s institutions and collective decisions.
Symeon Kedikoglou became the third lawmaker to leave SYRIZA’s parliamentary group, following Giorgos Karameros and Katerina Notopoulou, saying he could not stay out of the new ELAS movement.
Several other deputies are reportedly weighing similar moves, and speculation persists that Stefanos Kasselakis could enter Parliament if the party’s former spokesperson resigns.
Polakis said lawmakers joining ELAS “won’t come to vote” for a SYRIZA group leader.
