Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev said that Bulgaria has no place in the “Coalition of the Willing,” arguing that the country should not join a format whose members support continued financial and military assistance for Ukraine.

Speaking to Bulgarian journalists in Paris ahead of France’s traditional military parade marking the country’s national holiday, Radev said he had personally received an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron to take part in the coalition. However, he stressed that Sofia would not participate in an initiative focused on providing further military support to Kyiv.

“I personally received an invitation from President Macron to participate in the Coalition of the Willing, but I believe Bulgaria does not belong there because we do not participate in a coalition that insists on continued financial and military aid to Ukraine,” Radev said.

The prime minister said Bulgaria’s position was based on the belief that the war cannot be resolved through further military escalation. According to him, the focus should instead be placed on diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict.

“We are not providing such assistance because I believe that the solution to this conflict is not in prolonging it by military means, but in a strong diplomatic initiative that will finally put an end to the escalation,” Radev stated.
