KZN Speaker Nontembeko Boyce says she cannot ignore a binding High Court order preventing her from removing NFP MPL Cynthia Mbali Shinga while legal processes remain unresolved.
KwaZulu-Natal Legislature Speaker Nontembeko Boyce has rejected allegations by the National Freedom Party (NFP) that she unlawfully interfered in the party's internal affairs, saying her actions have been guided by the Constitution, the law and a binding High Court order.
Boyce's response follows the NFP's claims that she acted outside her constitutional mandate by failing to immediately implement the party's decision to remove its sole representative in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Mbali Shinga.
The party also accused her of interfering in its internal processes and using delaying tactics to keep Shinga in the Legislature.
In a statement on Monday, Boyce described the allegations as "regrettable, unfounded and mischaracterising both the constitutional role of the Speaker and the actions taken by this Office."
