The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Enugu State Branch, has demanded an unreserved public apology from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army over the arrest and detention of renowned surgeon and Emeritus Professor Martin A.C. Aghaji.
The association, however, insisted that security operatives responsible for the operation should be identified, arrested and prosecuted.
The demands were contained in a communiqué issued after an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) of the association held virtually on Friday, following Prof. Aghaji's reported arrest, detention and subsequent unconditional release.
The communiqué, jointly signed by the Chairman of the NMA in Enugu State, Dr. Sunday Okafor, and the General Secretary, Dr. Chima Edoga, dated July 11 and released to journalists on Monday, described the circumstances surrounding the operation as disturbing and capable of undermining public confidence in the rule of law and constitutional rights.
