Tragic head-on collision on R23 claims five lives in Mpumalanga.
Five people have lost their lives following a head-on collision between a sedan and an articulated truck on the R23 between Perdekop and Standerton in Mpumalanga.
The fatal crash occurred on Monday, 13 July 2026.
According to preliminary information released by the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the collision involved an articulated truck travelling from Standerton and a sedan travelling in the opposite direction from Perdekop.
The department said emergency services declared the driver of the sedan and three passengers dead at the scene. A fifth occupant, who sustained critical injuries, was transported to Standerton Provincial Hospital for medical treatment but later died from those injuries.
