Mohsen Talebkeikhah’s work on the microscale analysis of hydraulically created fractures in sandstone, received an award from the American Rock Mechanics Association (AMRA).As part of his thesis at the Geo-Energy-Lab (GEL), directed by Prof. Brice Lecampion, Mohsen studied the fracture morphology of core samples extracted from two hydraulic fracturing experiments. The PIXE Platform was involved in obtaining high-resolution micro-CT images for this analysis. A dedicated image processing workflow was applied to reconstruct both the upper and lower fracture surfaces to the highest possible accuracy. The quality of this work was recognized by the American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA), which awarded Mohsen the 2026 Dr N. G. W. Cook PhD Dissertation Award. As PIXE played an integral part in the data acquisition for this study, we are proud to congratulate Mohsen on his outstanding work.
