SYRIZA lawmaker Symeon Kedikoglou announced Monday that he intends to resign from his parliamentary seat and join the new political initiative launched by former prime minister Alexis Tsipras, known as ELAS.
The 53-year-old Evia MP announced his decision in a Facebook post, which included a photograph of himself with Tsipras. He said his decision to leave Parliament was not easy and came after careful consideration, but was necessary in line with the principles and values that have guided his political career.
“I inform you of my intention to resign from my parliamentary position, an act that is not easy, not without thought and not without personal cost, but necessary based on the principles and values that have guided me all these years,” Kedikoglou wrote.
Kedikoglou said he had consistently operated within the progressive political space and recalled that he answered Tsipras’ 2023 call for the expansion of SYRIZA and a broader political alliance.
“I could not be absent from the new ELAS initiative, with which I align myself, to contribute with my own strength toward a progressive patriotic direction,” he said.
