SYRIZA MP Katerina Notopoulou has resigned her parliamentary seat, becoming the latest lawmaker to leave following the launch of former prime minister Alexis Tsipras’s Greek Left Alliance (ELAS).
The Thessaloniki MP informed Parliament Speaker Nikos Kaklamanis of her decision in a letter and is understood to have earlier notified SYRIZA leader Sokratis Famellos by phone.
Her seat will be offered to Yiannis Amanatidis, the runner-up SYRIZA candidate in the Thessaloniki A constituency and who served as MP from 2012 to 2023.
Notopoulou’s departure follows that of Giorgos Karameros last week, who, giving up his seat, openly expressed support for Tsipras’ new political venture.
Notopoulou, who served as deputy minister for Macedonia and Thrace from 2018 to 2019, has not commented publicly on her reasons for leaving.
