Delays in SAPS re-vetting raise alarm over potential corruption

As concerns grow over the potential depth of corruption in the SAPS, RISE Mzansi calls for immediate action in management audits.

Delays in re-vetting and lifestyle audits for senior SAPS management have alarmed RISE Mzansi, which warns that internal corruption has penetrated the top ranks far more severely than expected.

This came after acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia disclosed that 109 out of 119 major generals and 18 out of 23 lieutenant generals had applied nationwide, with the majority of brigadiers' paperwork due this month.

In all nine provinces, 68 of the 71 senior managers have been referred to the State Security Agency (SSA) for processing at the provincial level.

Cachalia made this revelation during his parliamentary response.
