A senior Islamic scholar from Kerala, Panakkad Sayyid Nasar Abdul Hayya Shihabuddin Thangal Ba-Alavi, has been appointed the new Khazi of Dakshina Kannada district following the death of Khazi Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar in Mangaluru on June 23.The appointment was announced on Saturday by Yenepoya Abdullah Kunhi, president of the managing committee of Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid and Eidgah Masjid in Mangaluru.Mr. Thangal has conveyed his willingness to assume responsibility. The appointment was formally ratified at a meeting of representatives of several mosques convened under the leadership of the managing committee of Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid on Saturday, a release said.
