Speaker U.T. Khader is set to resign from the post as he is slated to get an important portfolio in the new cabinet, according to people in his close circle. Mr. Khader is among ministerial aspirants from coastal Karnataka.Those close to Mr. Khader said Mr. Khader is expected to be one among the four proposed Deputy Chief Ministers in the new Cabinet. “We are expecting an important ministerial portfolio for him,” said a close confidante of Mr. Khader.Mr. Khader offered Id-Ul-Azha prayers at the Idgah Masjid, off Bavutagudde, in Mangaluru on Thursday morning. He then attended a function related to Mata Amritanandamayi. Mr. Khader then cancelled a press meet in Mangaluru and left to Bengaluru on a flight to attend series of meetings related to new Cabinet formation.Meanwhile, Brahmavar Block Congress unit and Kundapur Youth Congress activists have demanded ministerial berth to MLC Manjunath Bhandary.Talking to reporters in Udupi on Thursday, Kundapur Youth Congress President Ischhitartha Shetty said Mr. Bhandary has been serving in the Congress for the past 40 years. He was close to many Ministers and has been working to resolve issues of people. The party should recognise his service and make him a Minister, Mr. Shetty said .A section of Congress workers are also demanding ministerial berth to first time Congress MLA from Puttur Ashok Kumar Rai.
