National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams climbs into a police van after his arrest for fraud and defeating the ends of justice at the parliamentary villages for MPs in May.
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has refuted claims that the human rights of National Coloured Congress (NCC) MP Fadiel Adams were violated during his arrest by the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) two months ago.
Responding to parliamentary questions from NCC MP Sakeena Frenchman, Cachalia said the SAPS was unaware of any violations of human rights during the execution of the warrant of arrest.
“At no stage during Mr Adams’ court appearances were complaints or evidence of human rights infringements presented to the court. Had such matters been raised, the court would have been duty-bound to address them before enrolling or proceeding with the case,” he said.
Cachalia was responding to Frenchman, who is also the NCC secretary-general, when she enquired whether he found that the human rights of Adams were violated.
