The incident has raised fresh concerns over the condition of public school infrastructure in Bauchi State, particularly the safety and welfare of students residing in government-owned hostels.

Students of Government Girls Secondary School (GSS), Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi State, have been left in distress after floodwaters inundated their hostel, leaving their rooms submerged and exposing the deplorable condition of the building.

A video obtained by SaharaReporters showed the students struggling to cope with the aftermath of the flooding as they were seen sweeping and packing out floodwater from their hostel rooms.

The footage revealed the hostel in a terrible state, with sections of the roof reportedly removed and the building visibly dilapidated. Despite the hazardous conditions, the students were seen making efforts to clean the flooded rooms where they sleep, highlighting the harsh reality they face daily.

The video captured several students using brooms and other makeshift tools to push water out of their rooms while trying to salvage the little space left for them to stay.
