AS Béziers Hérault announced the death of SA prop Luqobo "Bibo" Makwedini, 20, in a statement on Friday night

President Cyril Ramaphosa has conveyed his condolences following the deaths of Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams and former South African Under-18 rugby prop Luqobo Makwedini.

Makwedini, affectionately known as "Bibo", died on Friday after collapsing at the end of a morning training session at the Stade de la Gayonne in France. The 20-year-old AS Béziers Hérault prop was rushed to hospital, where he died a few hours later.

While French media reports and statements from his club indicated that he suffered a cardiac arrest, his family said they had been informed that his sudden death was the result of a heat stroke.

Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the Ramaphosa’s thoughts were with Adams’ teammates at Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as Makwedini’s former SA Under-18 teammates and his club colleagues in France.
