The South African Football Association (Safa) has dismissed reports that Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has stepped down from his role, stating that the mentor is currently at home in Belgium and will return to the country later this month.

However, during a recent interview with Belgian publication Voetbalnieuws, the 74-year-old tactician revealed that his tenure as head coach of the national team has come to an end, though he remains open to a less demanding role.

“Will I continue as a coach after all? No, it is irreversible!” Broos said. “If they need me for something else, perhaps in scouting: that is something else. But football is no longer going to be a part of my life 24 hours a day.”

Despite these direct quotes, Safa moved quickly to squash rumors of Broos' immediate departure, asserting that he remains the head coach until both parties mutually decide to part ways.
