The exploration well in the Ionian Sea’s Block 2 is moving closer to the drilling stage in terms of permits and organization, with the operation scheduled for February 2027 by Energean, ExxonMobil and Helleniq Energy, consortium sources said on Friday.
An environmental impact study for the drilling operation is expected to be submitted for approval to the Energy Ministry by the end of July. Another pending issue, concerning the selection of the port to support the required transportation of equipment and supplies, is also nearing resolution.
Among the available options, Igoumenitsa appears to be the preferred port.
