The possibility of accelerating an exploratory drilling project in the Ionian Sea was indicated in the briefing to analysts on Helleniq Energy’s first-quarter financial results.
“We are committed to proceeding with the drilling operation in the northern Ionian, west of Corfu, which will take place either in the fourth quarter of this year or in the first quarter of next year. At that point, we will know whether there is something worth exploring further,” said the group’s CEO Andreas Shiamishis.
Under the previous timetable, the drilling had been scheduled for February 2027. The exploration consortium includes Energean and ExxonMobil.
